We all know that we should buy and use
biodegradable eco-friendly products, but how can these products work for companies? This is a question we have always wondered, but with the progress of society and the continuous changes in the manufacturing process,
environmentally friendly alternatives have emerged for consumers to use.
The need to use biodegradable eco- friendly products
When we go hiking or cleaning up, most of the trash we see on highways and river banks is disposable products that get into the environment.
Products made from petroleum, such as plastic cups, polystyrene containers, disposable plastic straws and tableware, can take decades or even hundreds of years to completely decompose.
According to a survey data, the United Kingdom uses about 70,000 tons of paper cups every year, which may reach 7 billion cups! The negative effects of these products appeared twice! First, during the production process, petroleum-based plastics may emit a lot of carbon, and second, after use, they will remain in the landfill for the next few hundred years.
Types of degradable materials
Bagasse is a kind of papermaking material, sugarcane straw or bagasse discarded from sugar engineering. Waste that once needed to be disposed of is now used to make
disposable plates, bowls, cups, and flip-top food containers. Bagasse products are considered "tree-free" products. Goodbye Styrofoam restaurant box!
PLA stands for polylactic acid. It is a revolutionary new technology made from corn starch and is an ideal substitute for oil-based plastics in a variety of applications. These products include thermoformed products and injection molded products. PLA products will decompose in about 50 days in the environment, even faster in special compost bins.
Recycled paper-All paper products we stock, such as napkins and paper tote bags, are made in the UK using 100% recycled pulp.
Biodegradable food-grade paper is made of sustainable wood pulp and has high safety performance. It is an ideal material for many food packaging. With their appearance, we no longer use plastic tableware that pollutes the environment and is harmful to health. Disposable knives, forks and spoons made of plant fibers can now be used for outdoor and party activities.
About landfill
So, what happens when these materials enter the landfill?
Actually, landfills are designed to prevent pollutants generated during the decomposition process from entering the environment. Landfills are usually located in places with poor water permeability, and then use plastic or clay as a lining to prevent toxic mixed liquids from penetrating into the groundwater.
Once filled, the landfill will be sealed with another layer of clay or soil, creating a relatively oxygen-free, dry environment. These are almost the exact opposite of the conditions required for composting.
In short, the reason why we need to use environmentally friendly materials is not only because they compost faster than ordinary cups and products, but also because they produce less pollution and use less energy in the manufacturing process.
The production of
biodegradable eco-friendly products requires less carbon, which can reduce carbon emissions to a large extent, so in fact this is the main reason why people prefer
compostable environmentally friendly products that are compostable. Environmental protection companies only use degradable or recyclable materials, which means that our main consideration is the use of resources and environmental pollution, rather than cost. This shows that these new products entering the market-degradable and environmentally friendly products, can indeed reduce our carbon footprint on this planet.
