Pla coated paper cups are a new type of biodegradable product. They can be a perfect alternative to regular disposable plastic cups, and in a sense, an alternative to disposable paper cups as well. If companies are willing to increase their costs to reduce the amount of waste they produce, then this is certainly the beginning of a huge shift in social attitudes towards an eco-friendly lifestyle.
From the outside, biodegradable cold drink cups look no different than cups made of regular plastic. You can check the composition of the package yourself by looking at the bottom of any plastic product you have. You will find a number inside a triangle made up of arrows. This is called the resin identification code and the numbers range from 1 to 7. Each number corresponds to a different material. For regular plastic cups, the code is 5, which corresponds to polypropylene.Polypropylene is a strong thermoplastic polymer that acts as a moisture barrier and is relatively heat resistant. Although it is tough and resistant to many solvents, it can be recycled. On the other hand, if it ends up in a landfill, it can take up to 20 years to fully decompose.

On the other hand, biodegradable cups are made from polylactic acid (PLA). It is usually derived from plant sugars such as corn starch, sugar beets or sugar cane. In order for
pla coated paper cups and biodegradable packaging to typically degrade faster than their oil-based plastic counterparts, they need to end up in the right waste stream, in contact with water, heat and oxygen. Compostable thermal cups are our innovative solution to many of the problems of polycoated paper cups. Instead of using harmful polyethylene coatings that do not biodegrade, our cups are coated with a bio-plastic called PLA, which is derived from corn starch and is fully compostable in a commercial setting.
Like regular polymer coatings, PLA can withstand high temperatures, making it ideal for handling hot beverages without leaking toxic chemicals, melting or leaking. Even the lids on these cups are made of PLA, which is also 100% compostable. The double-walled design keeps drinks insulated without the need for a cup sleeve, which means your drink will stay hot and your hands will stay cool. If your business or restaurant is looking for a practical and sustainable solution, then Hyde is the right choice for you.
Biodegradable packaging should not be placed in the standard recycling bins used to collect paper, plastics and metals, as food waste can impair the mechanical recycling process. Nor should they be placed in general waste that ends up in incineration or landfills. If incinerated, bioplastics produce energy, and some studies show they produce more heat than paper. So that's not terrible. However, even though compostable bioplastics do not produce methane, landfills are designed to be anaerobic and compostable bioplastics will not degrade under these conditions.
